Creative Galaxy - an Amazon Prime Original Series

Over the weekend, my kids and I discovered Creative Galaxy, an Amazon Prime Original Series and the latest from the creators of Blue's Clues.  If you and your kids enjoy Blue's Clues and Daniel Tiger's Neighborhood, then you will love Creative Galaxy too.

Each episode features a boy named Arty who has a problem that must be fixed with art.  To find a solution, Arty travels through the Creative Galaxy gathering items for his idea box, and landing on planets where he meets friends enjoying different forms of art, who help Arty create an art project that solves his problem.  The show ends with some real kids creating an art project (related to the one Arty makes) using everyday items that your kids can make at home.

The show has a excellent cast including Cloris Leachman, Brooke Shields, and Samantha Bee (The Daily Show).  Series creator Angela Santomero has the golden touch when it comes to childrens programming.  Check it out, I think you and your kids will enjoy!

The Golden Globe Awards were a big win for Streaming TV services.  Amazon won two awards to Netflix's one.  Transparent, Amazon's new hit, was the big winner, taking the Golden Globe for "Best TV Series, Musical or Comedy".  And Jeffrey Tambor, star of Transparent, won for best actor in a TV comedy.  While Netflix won a Golden Globe with Kevin Spacey taking home the Best Actor in a TV Drama category.

Netflix was a big winner in another way, releasing a trailer for House of Cards Season 3.  Check out the trailer below (awesome!).

Netflix is about to stop streaming BBC shows

Get ready to start binge watching Doctor Who.  Netflix will be eliminating almost all of its BBC programming as soon as January 31st.

Due to the expiration of Netflix’s contract with the BBC, popular shows like Doctor Who, Luther, Fawlty Towers, Black Adder, the original British version of House Of Cards, Wallander, Coupling, Top Gear, and more will disappear. This is a big blow to those of us who rely on Netflix for our British entertainment.  Hopefully they can hammer out a new contract before we lose some of our favorite streaming shows.

New Sling TV Subscription Service Announced

DISH Network announced the upcoming launch of Sling TV, a subscription service aimed at cord cutters as a less expensive alternative to cable. For only $20 per month, the subscription includes cable staples like ESPN, ESPN2, CNN, TBS, TNT, Disney Channel, ABC Family, Food Network, HGTV, Travel Channel, Cartoon Network and Adult Swim.  For an extra $5 per month, you can add a “Kids Extra” package with Disney Junior, Disney XD, Boomerang, Baby TV and Duck TV.  You can also add a “News & Info Extra” package that will include HLN, Cooking Channel, DIY and Bloomberg TV, also for $5.  A “Sports Extra” package is reportedly in the works as well.

The service will be available to watch on Xbox ONe, Roku, PCs, Amazon Fire TV and iOS and Android phones and tablets.

You can't skip commercials on Sling TV, like you can on a cable DVR, and none of the major TV networks will be included (CBS, ABC, NBC, Fox), but it's still a very attractive alternative to Cable.
